We are one of four Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and Hazardous Materials teams in Bexar County. We have six Advanced Hazmat Technicians who can respond in the hot zone of an incident. Several other firefighters are trained to assist on an incident from the cold zone. If need be, we can contain runoff to prevent contamination, stop leaks in containers, evacuate the necessary area around an incident, mitigate fire and explosion hazards, rescue or recover victims from the hot zone, and decontaminate responders and victims exposed. There are three other county teams, and one or more of them would likely be called to respond with us. The trailer in the photo is our current Hazmat Response Trailer. We are building a much larger trailer to transport our WMD and Hazmat equipment.
